TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

  • It should not take citizens 90+ days to get access to public records. The government is a body built and sustained by the public; elected officials are simply the conduit to move the needle forward.
  • We need a strong independent voice at the Registrar of Voters office.
  • The county staff need leaders in the Commission who will provide direction and achievable goals.
  • With over 24 departments and services that the county manages, we need a strong management team of commissioners to guide and lead important policy and budget conversations.

HOMELESNESS

TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

  • The homeless remedies put forth appear designed to perpetuate the challenges our county faces, not solve them. This boondoggle is taking valuable resources from our community; we should reallocate funds and resources towards our senior citizens and other community resource organizations.

ATTAINABLE HOUSING

COUNTY SERVICES & RESOURCES

COUNTY SERVICES & RESOURCES

  • The county has a responsibility of approving new property developments including single family and multi-family homes. While we have many new homes under construction, most are unaffordable to the people in our county. This is unacceptable. With inflation rates continuing to rise, we need a plan to help people get into safe and affordable homes and make life more sustainable and predictable for our county residents.
  • Rents are rising faster than average income. This must be addressed. We need responsible development.

COUNTY SERVICES & RESOURCES

COUNTY SERVICES & RESOURCES

COUNTY SERVICES & RESOURCES

  • Older adults are projected to outnumber children under age 18 for the first time in U.S. history by 2034. By 2030 all baby boomers will be 65 years of age or older. As a county we need to plan now for additional resources for seniors, including another senior center in south Reno.
  • Work with county agencies to provide more mental health services to our constituents.
  • We need to ensure our county Emergency Management Services (EMS) are being supported to the best of the commission’s ability so that county residents feel safe and know that in the event of an emergency, they will be taken care of.

more from Eugene:

"The voters I've talked to are very concerned about affordable housing and the sustainability of our businesses, and those two issues go hand in hand. We will not successfully attract new business here if we cannot bring solutions to the table for attainable housing options. We need fresh, innovative ideas to build housing, at reasonable cost, for our county."
